The Writing Process Blog Tour

I’m very excited to be participating in The Writing Process Blog Tour. Thank you to the lovely author, Theresa Hernandez, for tagging me in! In short, writers across all different genres, all around the world are answering the same four questions and then inviting a few more writers to participate. You can check out Theresa’s post on her blog here, and follow the trail back to see all the amazing folks who have participated so far. So, without further ado, let the fun begin.

photo 2What are you currently working on?
Right now, I’m working on, and releasing books within The Revelation Series. The first book, Revelation, was my author debut. Followed by the sequel, Restraint, which is slated for release on August 1, 2014. At the moment, I’m writing and finishing the third book in the series, Redemption.

At its core, the series is truly a forbidden love story, entangled with fantasy worlds and paranormal creatures. The books follow college freshman Eve Collins on her journey of forbidden love, self-discovery, and sacrifice. Eve discovers that she is the key to a centuries old war and it basically turns her life upside down. Asher St. Michael is part of a race of supernatural protectors that for centuries have loyally protected mankind from evil. Add into the mix Lucifer’s legion trying to destroy her, a rival clan threatening to turn her in to the dark army, and a sexy protector by the name of Gage Gallagher vying for her affections and things become complicated. Can Asher and Eve fulfill their destinies, or will their love and his secrets destroy everything? You’ll have to read and find out!

What makes your work different?
While the story of young, forbidden love is not new, this series is chalk-full of new paranormal characters and fantasy worlds that, in my opinion, have yet to really be explored within the paranormal/fantasy romance genre. The Revelation Series protectors’ are a new breed of paranormal hotties. I love that I’m one of few writers who have touched upon this particular supernatural creature. It allows me to create the world and mythology around them.

Why do you write what you do?
Paranormal Romance is my favorite genre to read. As an author, I believe that you should always write what you love because at the end of the day, if you wouldn’t read your own story and love it, why should others? In my opinion, the paranormal/fantasy genre is one in which you can invent entirely new worlds and push the limits of creativity and reader’s beliefs. If done well, a paranormal book can take the reader on a journey. It’s a blank canvas and as a creative person, it’s the best possible outlet for my stories.

How does your writing process work?
To be honest, I’m not really sure I have a ‘process’ per say. I’m both a plotter and pantser writer. As the author, the characters in this series are constantly surprising me. Storyline development of The Revelation Series included the following stages (loosely): Research, Character Background/Development, World Building/Creation, Series ARC, Plotline Development/Outline and Writing. I love my journal. I’m old school like that. A lot of the dialogue and ‘ideas’ I write down in the journal before flushing things out on the computer. The fun of writing, in my opinion, is seeing where each character wants their story to go. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t – lol.

Next Up:
I’m tagging some of my fellow new/young adult writers to participate: Kristina Renee, Krystal Wade and Janell Rhiannon.
